Lift this Heavy Burden

“You cannot change anyone but yourself.”

When people don’t live up to your expectations, it’s not unusual to feel responsible for changing their behavior, especially if they are close to you. You may try and try – but when you don’t succeed, you end up feeling depressed and like a failure.

Changing another person can be a frustrating, impossible goal. Realize that people only change when they want to. Changing someone else is not your job!

When you put yourself in the position of controlling the uncontrollable you place a heavy burden on yourself. Not only do you feel weighted down, but you use up tremendous amounts of energy in this pursuit.

Instead, channel your focus toward things that you can control, such as yourself. It’s a much more peaceful and productive way to live.

Build Rock Solid Self-Esteem and Confidence

“Refuse to remain in your comfort zone.”

Your comfort zone feels safe, familiar and relaxing. The problem is, if you’re spending too much time there you may not be growing and evolving as a woman.

It takes a tremendous amount of bravery to do what is unfamiliar and  uncomfortable. The good news is, the payoff is worth it. Your self esteem rises and your self confidence becomes unyielding.

Challenge yourself this week. Put yourself in an uncomfortable situation on purpose. How about volunteering for a project that you would normally shy away from? Strike up a conversation with a stranger or sign up for a class to learn something new.

Whatever step you take, expect to be uncomfortable but know in your heart that you’re doing wonders for your well-being.

Are you perfect?

“Perfection is a point of view.”

Are you the kind of woman who would stretch yourself to make EVERYTHING just right? A tad this side or that, and you feel like a horrid failure?

Women want to be the best for their families, their friends, and even for themselves. But does being perfect mean a perfect 10 in everything?

When you focus only on perfection, life becomes a race. The thrill is there at the beginning, but soon you are panting to reach the finish line. You want to excel at work, cook the perfect dish, teach your little ones all the best values, never blow your top, keep your husband smiling, participate in brownie meets, AND host a welcome party for your neighbor. Clearly, this is asking too much.

Perfection is what YOU make of it. Often, in our bid to excel in one thing, we horribly fail at others.

Excel where you can. For the rest, a good effort should suffice. There is no one to compete with or compare yourself to. Remember, you DON’T have to be #1 in EVERY RACE!

I have ended the race of perfection.

Put an End to Negativity

“Awareness is the power you need to take control.”

Throughout each day you’re constantly talking to yourself. It’s completely normal. We all do it. In fact we do it so much that our subconscious mind accepts what we say as truth. This acceptance forms the beliefs that we have of ourselves, and how we perceive that others see us.

If your self-talk is negative, your beliefs about yourself will be also. On the flip side, if your self-talk is positive and self-empowering, so is the image and the beliefs you have of yourself.

Take time today and tune in to how you’re speaking to yourself. Identify precisely what beliefs you’re forming based on your self-talk and bring them to your conscious mind. Question them, scrutinize them, and become familiar with what are they telling you.

The awareness gained by doing this is the first major step toward an empowerment that will affect everything in your life!

Do you love the work you do?

“Fulfillment is the fruit of work that is more than a job.”

Passion, a positive attitude and a sense of adventure, excitement and fun, all make your work more than just a job.

There is no mystery in the fact that the rewards of work are greater when you’re engaged in what you do.

Are you engaged in your work, or is it just a job? If you dread your days in the office and feel like a robot going through the motions, then honestly ask yourself if this is how you want to spend your life.

Women who love what they do, take immense pleasure in their work experience. Achievements come naturally, and they feel refreshed and exhilarated at the end of the day.

Remember, you were born to do work that you love. So, do it. And feel the joy!

Lessen the Affect of Stress

“Clear your mind, daily, and appreciate the moment.”

The more your life is packed with deadlines and stress, the more you’ll benefit from taking time out to just ‘be’ in the moment.

Clear your mind of everything that’s gone by and everything that’s to come.

Focus on the blue sky above, or the clouds racing by. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face, or the cool of the raindrops on your hand. Look at the grass, the trees or the people walking by. Breathe in the scent of flowers.

For a moment, just ‘be.’ It will ground you and help you put everything else back into perspective.
